Creating a blog
If you are not logged in, log in. After that you have a menu bar at the top of the page that is called evobar. Click on the first entry that is named Site (en) or Seite (de) or on the second entry that is named Collection (en) or Projekt (de).
If you chose the first option you see a listing of your blogs or collections. In the top right corner of this table is a button „+ New Collection“ / „+ Neues Projekt“. Click on that.
With the second option (you clicked on Collection / Projekt) you see an overview of your current Collection/ Projekt. Underneath the black bar in the top you find 0 to several buttons with the names of your blogs on it, depending of course on the number of blogs you are running. In any case there is a button with a „+“ on it at the end of this row. To start a new blog click on this button.
Then click on Blog which is the default and the supported kind of project on tiblogs. In the next window you choose the design. Here you should use tiblogs_skin as it is preconfigured for tiblogs blogs.
After that you are going to be asked for first details:
Example content / Beispielinhalte
Here you need to decide if you want to start your blog empty or if you want it filled up with example posts an pages and comments etc. to get an impression what it looks like when active.
My advice is to start an empty blog. The example content is a lot and needs to be deleted or replaced one by one. To get an impression of how your blog could look like browse the other projects and find out what you like.
is the name of your blog. You can change this later if you want.
This is important as it will create the URL /Permalink/ web-address for your blog. After the setup for your blog it will be accessible through the address ti.tiblogs.org/YOUR-SHORT-NAME where „ YOUR-SHORT-NAME“ is replaced with whatever you type into this field. Special characters will be replaced though. The resulting name in the address you can also see in the next line „URL-name“.
if you want to give other users the right to work with you on the blog choose the option „advanced permissions“. After Saving your settings you will have additional forms in the settings tab called „user perms“ and „group perms“ where you can adjust precisely who can do what.
decide who can see your blog.
When you are logged in you have the tools- or evobar at the top of your page (above the black header bar). Click on Skin/ Design to open the design dialogue.
You can create different designs for larger screens, tablets and smartphones but as the layout is responsive you can omit the options and just go with the standard layout.
You allready chose the general layout when creating the blog. With a click on „Choose another Skin“ / „Anderes Design auswählen“ you can change this decision.
Let's go ahead to the general Settings.
here you decide if you want a sidebar and on which side this sould be displayed. Without a sidebar the width of the main column is up to you.
with the color-scheme you set a main color for your site that will be used in many different places like headlines and links. You can come back to these settings and change it any time.
attachments and images
-a better way
in your Dashboard go to Files (or click on „Attachments“ in your collection → contents overview). Then open the tab for „Advanced Upload“. Here you can upload five or more files at once but there are limits to the maximum upload size.
You have the option to choose a new name under which the file will be saved. Also you have three text fields.
Title → might be shown with the image or not
Alternative Text → if you upload an image that has pure decorative purpose and no relevant content leave this field empty. As soon as there is relevant content or a post / text references to that image give detailed description of what is to be seen. This description is important for everyone who cannot see the image due to physical impairment, restictions or loading issues of the website.
Caption/Description of the file: might not be visible in some layouts. So this is the place for further description that might explain the context of an image but are not relevant to get the actual content of the image.
Header- and Body background images do not have an alternative text. They should not hold important information but are decorative. Header images may contain the blog title and tagline as log as this is also provided in textual form in the blog settings.
